Proper Disposal of Wood Ashes

When disposing of wood ashes at the County landfill or transfer stations, please dump them onto the fire screen - not into bins.

Even though ashes may look like they’ve cooled off, there is a good chance there may still be some burning embers. Hot ashes will melt plastic storage bins, set adjacent materials on fire and cause significant property damage.

Use extra caution when transferring cooled ashes to a combustible containers. Introducing oxygen can reignite embers that look cool.
